The Bears are excited to announce the signing of goaltender, Anthony Kimlin for season 2016.
The Australian native previously played for the Sydney Ice Dogs in 2013, aiding the team in winning the Goodall Cup. Kimlin is currently finishing his season for the Whitby Dunlops in the Allan Cup Hockey league and will be representing Australia in the World Championships later this month in Mexico.
Often dubbed as the “Great Wall of Kimlin” the 26 year-old net minder was named the AIHL Goalkeeper of the Year in 2013 and held the highest SVS% two years running in the AIHL (.935 in 2012 and .915 in 2013).
Kimlin is looking forward to be returning to Australia to play for the Bears:
“It will be nice playing in the AIHL again this season. I’m looking forward to coming back to Sydney and playing with some familiar faces as well as some I’ve only played against.
We have a lot of strong Aussie talent this season, plus some great imports to compliment that; we’re going to be a tough team to beat… I’m excited for the season to get underway.”
Sydney Bears Head Coach, Ron Kuprowsky previously coached Kimlin while he was at the Ice Dogs and is thrilled to have him back in net for the Bears this season:
“Kimlin is going to be unbeatable in net this season. Having coached him in the past, I know how talented and incredibly focused he is so I know he’s going to be a big asset for the Bears.
I’m really looking forward to having an Australian goalie in net as well, and the best one in Australia at that!”
The Bears open their season against the CBR Brave on Sunday, April 24 at Penrith Ice Palace before taking on Kimlin’s former team, the Sydney Ice Dogs on May 1. Get your tickets online now.
