Bears sign Annesley for 2016
Wednesday, April 13, 2016 - Submitted by Bianca Musico
The Sydney Bears are excited to announce their third import, defenceman Ryan Annesley for season 2016.

The 30-year old Canadian will bring years of experience and add significant depth to the Bears defence this year after playing five seasons of NCAA hockey with Niagara University and spending two seasons in the ECHL with the Cincinnati Cyclones and Bakersfield Condors before heading to Norway.

During his college career, Annesley captained the team from 2008 to 2010 and totaled 70 points in 144 games; in his 67 games in the ECHL, Annesley registered 26 points.

On making the move Down Under and playing in the AIHL Annesley said:

“I am very excited to get to Sydney, to see and experience the city. I’ve heard so many great things about it and I can't wait to finally get there and of course start the season!

I had previously heard of the AIHL.  A few years back my dad and brother traveled to Australia with a Canadian travel team and played some of the pro teams in some friendly matches.  Needless to say they had a blast. After meeting Ron in Singapore a couple years back, we discussed the opportunity and I said I would definitely be interested. When we talked about playing this season it was a no brainer and I said I would for sure come to Sydney to play for the Bears.”

Head Coach, Ron Kuprowsky is looking forward to have an experienced defenceman like Ryan on the roster this season:

“Ryan will provide experience and quality to the team this season. It was quite fortuitous to meet Ryan in a tournament in Singapore, there I could see straight off he was an exceptionally talented player. After talking to him it was clearly evident he would be a great addition to the club both on and off the ice. We are fortunate to have Ryan join us this season.”

The Bears play their first home game of the season against the CBR Brave on April 24. Tickets will be available online soon.
