Bears V Thunder [4-3 Loss]

Bears V Thunder [4-3 Loss]

Eric Brook

Sydney Bears have been narrowly defeated 4-3 by Perth Thunder in a thrilling finish at Penrith Ice Palace on Sunday August 7.

Both teams kept the game sheet clean in the first period with no goals or no penalties added. A Tomas Landa goal in the late stages of period two and a quick Thunder reply saw the scores tied 1-1 at the end of period 2.

Thunder opened the scoring in period 3 with a shorthanded goal, closely followed by a powerplay goal to Bears forward Billy Cliff. Two Thunder goals saw the Thunder lead 4-2, a repeat of the previous result.

With Bears throwing a lot at the Thunder, a Landa powerplay goal with 2 minutes remaining in the game narrowed the gap to a goal. Even with the extra attacker as the clock wound down, the Bears could not equalise and the Thunder won a tight game 4-3.

The two teams meet again in Perth this coming weekend before the Bears return home for their final home double header against Melbourne Mustangs (Saturday August 20) and Adelaide Adrenaline (Sunday August 21).
