Preview: Adelaide Road Trip

With major storms forecast this weekend in Sydney, the Bears are off to Adelaide for their yearly road trip against the Adelaide Adrenaline. Action starts at the Ice Arena at 5pm on Saturday and 4.30pm on Sunday (both Sydney times). 


It will be the Bears'first time on the newly replaced ice at the arena due to a major failure of the system under the ice during summer. So far, the Adrenaline have hosted the Ice Dogs in Adelaide and travelled to Melbourne twice with series against the Ice and Mustangs.Currently, the Adrenaline are one place in front of the Bears with 2 regulation wins, 2 shootout losses and 4 regulation time losses from their 8 games prior to this weekend (8 points).


Last weekend, the Adrenaline played 2 games against the Mustangs in Melbourne with 2 losses. On Saturday, they lost 4-2 in regulation time while on Sunday, lost in a shootout (final score 4-3 SO).


Meanwhile, the Bears arrive in Adelaide with no regulation wins for 2016. This is the same situation as the team faced last year on the same weekend. Last year, the Adrenaline won on the Saturday and the Bears won (finally!) on the Sunday. This year, the Bears have recorded all of their points in shootouts with wins against CBR Brave & Sydney Ice Dogs.


Last weekend, the Bears won in a shootout against the Ice Dogs (4-3 SO) in the 3rd Battle Of Sydney at Liverpool. On Sunday, they traveled to Canberra and lost 6-4 against the Brave in a hard fought game. Affecting this weekend, the Bears will be without captain Michael Schlamp & goalie Anthony Kimlin after an incident late in the game against the Brave. Both players are serving an automatic 2 game suspension and therefore are not making the trip to Adelaide. 

The Bears are keen to turn their season around and record their first regulation win and what better place than to do it on the road and just before the All Star break! Bears return to Penrith Ice Palace on Sunday June 19 at 5pm.
