He got his first AIHL goal on Saturday and scored the equalizer and shootout winner on Sunday against the Adelaide Adrenaline. Nic Kawasaki is fast making a name for himself in the Australian Ice Hockey League. Now, the California native will be representing the Sydney Bears at the 2016 AIHL All-Star Weekend on June 11 and 12.
Kawasaki will be participating in both the accuracy and shootout competitions on Saturday, before joining teammates, Michael Schlamp, Brent Vandenberg, Ryan Annesley and Anthony Kimlin on Team Schlamp on Sunday.
On being invited to the All-Star Weekend, Kawasaki said:
“It means a lot. It’s pretty cool, it’s only the second time they’ve had it so coming in a couple of weeks ago and getting the call to [be a part of the weekend] was special and I’m really excited!”
Kawasaki played his first game with the Bears against the Sydney Ice Dogs on May 28 and is proving himself to be an asset for the club. He brings a level of determination and a high skill set that adds depth to a strong roster of both local talent and imports.
“It’s awesome!” Kawasaki said on playing for the Bears. “I’m having a great time, the city is great, all the boys are great and so is the coaching staff. I’m having a blast so far. I love it.”
