MEET THE PLAYERS:
#97 Tyerell Clare 

What other teams/leagues have you played for? And what have you noticed are the main differences?
I played for Newcastle until I reached Midgets. Then I decided to head overseas and I played for a prep school called the Ontario Hockey Academy. From there, I made the Under 18 Australian National Team and then signed with the Vancouver Rangers from the WSHL. There are definitely some different styles of hockey in the different leagues. In America it is a lot more physical, where as in Australia I find it to be less physical but faster.

How did you get into hockey originally, and at what age?
I actually got into hockey because of the Mighty Ducks movies. They were my favourite movies growing and I fell in love with the sport. I started playing when I was 10 years old.

Why did you choose your number?
Number 97 has always been my number. I chose it because its my birth year.

What are your hopes for your hockey career?
I would love to continue to see the world and to play the game that I love.

Do you have any pre-game rituals or superstitions?  
Yes, I stand in the same spot on the ice, behind the net, before we play every game.

Who is your favourite NHL team and player?
Detroit Red Wings and Nathan Mackinnon.

Why did you choose to play defence rather than forward?
Actually, I didn’t choose. My minor league coach put me there, and I guess I was kind of good, so I’ve stayed in defence ever since.
