Sydney Bears have fought back from 2-0 down to force Adelaide Adrenaline to a shootout at Penrith Ice Palace on Sunday July 10. Adrenaline won the shootout & win 3-2 (SO).
Adrenaline opened the scoring very early on in period 1 in one of their first adventures into the Bears defensive zone.
Try as either team might, neither team scored for the remainder of the first period and the full length of period 2. Wayward shots and desperate defence kept Adrenaline leading 1-0 after 30 minutes of play.
Midway through period 3, Adrenaline scored again to increase their lead. Finally, Bears got onto the scoreboard a couple of minutes later with a powerplay goal to captain Michael Schlamp. With the tempo increasing, Tomas Landa scored to level the scoreline 2-2 with 2.41 remaining.
With the deadlock unable to be broken, the Bears entered their 8th shootout in 18 games. Unfortunately for the Bears, they were unable to win in the shootout. Despite this, it was a good fight back for the Bears in the third period in a very tight game. For the second time of the weekend, Bears and their opposition had exactly the same number of shots on goal.
Next weekend, Bears head to Melbourne for their second time in 2016. Now in 6th place and 9 points away from 4th place, the team need to keep winning to feature in the Finals.
